Dad,
Firstly you
should know that you are a hero for me, right from a young age, you were and
are a source of admiration and inspiration. I talk proudly when I get to speak
about you and all you have achieved in life, you did
the best you could to earn the love and respect of not just the family but even
the society. For that you should always be proud.
I wanted to tell this to you since a long time, I am sure you would agree that the last thing I want to see is tears flowing through the toughest lady I have seen in my life, your wife and my mom. Yesterday, maybe she said what she said because she felt it, or a slip of tongue, whatever the case, maybe you could have not reacted to it...maybe you could have focused on the newspaper or Sunday the cross word puzzle, then maybe you would not have said what you said. I know one thing, when we are upset, we tend to say things we do not mean, we want to say things to the other person just with one intention, and this is to hurt them even harder than what we felt. I am not sure anger ever helped me convey a clear message. I realised that most often I get my message across while talking and not shouting. I am not trying to tell you to change, I am not a better judge than you on how to handle a life...you are far ahead of me in terms of everything.
What I am trying to say is, try and keep yourself calm, if you can smile and accept a delay, a repair, a breakdown, an un-invited guest, tasteless food, someone like mom wanting to do something else from you, the lift breakdown, power failure, the BSNL line getting disconnected, driver coming in late, laptop issues, internet issues, traffic on the roads,...and anything else that you know isn't that important that it will change the direction of your life.
What's really important is to accept, we are loved even more when we have the courage to accept humility to apologize when we make a mistake and respecting every ones opinion. As I know I have made many mistakes in the past because of my temper...I can tell you safely, that a few things I said to people very close to me hurt me even still.
Dad,
My only intention of writing this letter is to share my feelings..not to hurt you in any way. I want you to know we have tremendous love and respect towards you and it won't change.
Maybe..life is best enjoyed when we see it as a spectator. You get to look at everything around, but we get to choose what should affect us.
My limited experience told me that I could have avoided 90% of arguments, because at the end of the day, it did not matter if I won an argument, because an argument has neither charm or serves a purpose.
Remember, I will be always with you, behind you to support you as you have been supporting our family all these years. And I also remember , the life I have now is because you gave it.

Your son.
PS: What a maturity among younger generation? The present society needs more such sons and less such fathers. Hope you agree.
