Opposing JLC is absurd – Bhandaru Srinivas Rao (I.I.S.)
The raging controversy over the formation of Joint Legislative Committee (JLC) to probe into land allocations by the state government in the past and suggest new guidelines, is significant in many ways, than been construed by some as 'victimization' of a particular political family or individual, appears as absurd to me.
Such an initiative is a must when successive governments under the guise of `industrial development` and `employment generation` gifted away agricultural as well prime lands to several corporates. One shall appreciate Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's initiative. As a media practitioner, am sure it was a conscious decision, as he happened to be part and parcel of earlier government headed by Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, in some position or other against whom the main Opposition, Telugu Desam, had levelled serious allegations of impropriety in allocation of lands. These allegations were raised in the state Assembly in the past also by same Opposition Telugu Desam and then Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and his then government chief whip and present chief minister, defended effectively.
The TDP had also incorporate these allegations, especially land allocations to some corporates which helped give berth to late YSR son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's `Jagapathi Group` which launched the "Saakshi" Telugu newspaper as well "Saakshi TV", in their 2009 election manifesto, but people turned it down. But, yet again TDP raised same allegations and this time around with an obvious intention to embarrass Kiran targetting the late leader’s son, Jaganmohan Reddy, who happens to be the promoter of the media house(s) in question.
Instead of doubting intentions of the Chief Minister for yielding to the Opposition demand for JLC, why not welcome it as he made it clear that only `specific` cases of land allocations will come into probe. The other day, the Saakshi daily has carried an interesting article listing out land allocations done to several corporates during nine year rule of Telugu Desam, headed by Nara Chandrababu Naidu. If those facts are true, then the Opposition too may be floored along with the earlier Congress government if at all there were any flaws.
True any resposible government provide land to a corporate believing it bring in new technology as well provide employment opportunities to locally available skilled labor. None can doubt such intentions of government. If I remember right, YSR during his tenure as Chief Minister, proudly quite often mentioned of the world leader in shoe making Adidas providing succor to 800 or 1000 locals in Nellore. Adidas is benefactor of government land under SEZ. Well, not necessary that single claim of late YSR cannot be taken as face value, to give clean chit for other allocations of his government. He, as Chief Minister, might have believed to those Corporates promises and took the bold step to allocate huge chunks of lands to Corporates. What`s wrong if an action is taken against some of those Corporates who failed to adhere to its time-schedule and misused the lands allotted to them?
No concessions, either to the Congress or earlier TDP governments. The government should only list out those Corporates who grossly violated and have prima facie case of `lease deed` violated to be included into the purview of proposed JLC.
I for one as an analyst don`t see any `conspiracy` against any individual by the ruling Congress or its arch rival Telugu Desam or both together conniving. Can Kiran take the risk of JLC as he heads more or less the same Cabinet that headed by YSR which made these land allocations?
At the same time, I shall also not find fault with aggrieved Saakshi group Chairman and son of former chief minister YS Jaganmohanreddy, for expressing doubts. It is no secret that such ‘opportunities’ are being best utilized in present day politics to outwit their rivals. But, if the intentions of the government as claimed by Kiran Kumar Reddy are true of forming better guidelines by setting up Land Bank for auditing, then why oppose? (31-03-2011)
