Restraint is need of the hour - Bhandaru Srinivas Rao (I.I.S.)
The unsavory incident in which some unidentified persons trying to discarnate Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu’s statue at Telugu University is condemnable by all peace loving as well law abiding citizens. It was unpardonable as it is provocative and that too happening a few days ahead of the state formation day. Those who indulged should have been either ignorant of the history, or uneducated, unsocial elements. It was undoubtedly a senseless act.
Even the decision of the Joint Action Committee headed by none other than a professor like Prof Kodandaram to give a call to students to prevent the state ministers belonging to the region participating in the state formation ceremony is also immoral and unconstitutional. As I expressed in one of my TV channels debate calling state formation day as “betrayers” clearly exhibit the shortsightedness of those who called for, or started usage of such phrases.
In fact, the state bifurcation may as well become reality once the centre constituted Justice Srikrishna Committee submitted its report. Whether the committee report will favor bifurcation or not, in fact, remains hypothetical as of now. Those who are reporting or analyzing also based on some assumptions and presumptions and cannot be treated as that of the Committee members of Justice Srikrishna.
Time and again, the Committee members reassuring the agitated parties that they will submit their report by the set deadline of December 31. Then why indulge in provocative acts by the agitators in its support and so the media, which should not shirk its responsibility by deliberately dragging the Committee as source to their stories and articles. The rebuttal of the TRS Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao that they would not accept Telangana without Hyderabad was based on a report purportedly appeared in a national daily. Why can’t he, who strived hard to take the issue to such pass, if not climax, wait till December 31. None should find fault with him saying that his party would intensify the agitation and turn entire Telangana as war zone is understandable.
But, who is opposing the bifurcation? To me it appears none. Even the vocal integrationists from the other two regions – coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema – appear to have resigned to their fate and in the process of reconciliation. In such a situation, where was the necessity for responsible ruling Congress as the main Opposition, Telugu Desam leaders to issue provocative statements only to precipitate matters? How many of the ruling Congress MPs and MLAs, who are today so vociferously arguing for separate Telangana statehood, will resign if the party high command take a firm stand otherwise? This also applies to Telugu Desam members, who traveled all the way to Delhi, only to derive some political mileage.
Ironically, I also find lack of understanding and unity among all those who are fighting for separate statehood. Why can’t they come under single banner, at least now. The TRS lead by Chandrasekhararao, the JAC headed Prof Kodandaram appears that they are not in one tune, and at the same time defer with the TDP. And the TDP finds fault with TRS approach, by sparing the ruling Congress, which should be held responsible to introduce Bill in Parliament, instead targeting them. As if this is not enough, the ruling Congress members, though in power, also added confusion, by defying its own government’s constitutional obligations. As if this ia also not enough, the balladeer Gaddar jumped onto the Telangana bandwagon and set up his own shop, to spearhead the movement. As a strong believer in Maoist philosophy which says “power can be attained only through barrel of a gun rather than ballot.’, he says now, he will fight out till a Bill favoring bifurcation is introduced in Parliament.
To an ordinary Telanganite, the whole fight placated confusion and commotion. I for one feel that ‘restraint is only the need of the hour, as December 31 is not far off.
